Introduction

Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons (referred to as just 'Captain Scarlet' from here on in) is amazing.

It's been with me all my life. Although, I'm only eighteen and so perhaps that statement doesn't have much impact. But I've watched it for ages. My Dad is a big fan (although his favourite Gerry Anderson series is Thunderbirds) and that encouraged me to watch it. The series also had a huge boost at some point when I was growing up, with lots of books and the release of the DVDs (or VHSs, which I still have to this day), so that was also hugely important in my interest in the series.

It was always Captain Scarlet for me, over something like Thunderbirds, because it was so dark. It was believable and it felt strangely real. The characters, the set up and the stories were all great. Captain Black is a genuinely sinister villain, the Mysterons are excellently handled and the concept of bringing people, and indeed anything, back from the dead is incredible. I love the series - and so if I was to just review, this blog might be a bit boring.

But I plan for this "Marathon" to be much more than just reviews. I am going to watch each episode of the original series, Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons, in order, and comment on a number of things. Firstly, good and bad points of the episode - because it won't all be good, I expect. But none of my criticisms are going to be 'oh they're puppets' or anything, because that would be stupid. (Besides, the puppets are amazing.)

Secondly, I'm going to apply crazy conspiracy theories to the episodes, some mine and some (hopefully) from other people. I'll analyse certain moments and pick out certain scenes to look at. On occasion, I will watch an episode with (again, hopefully) my Mum or Dad. My Mum's used to the series though hasn't watched it deliberately, and my Dad, as I said, is a fan, so it should be an interesting perspective. I'll then record their thoughts for that episode.

After all that is done (and I'll be adding more features and thoughts to the episodes as time goes on, when i think of more), I'll move onto New Captain Scarlet. I've watched that series far less, although I have seen it all, but will watch them in order and look at them in the same way as I do the original series.

Along the way there will be a few entries on the Century 21 Audio Productions, as well as some things on Merchandise and Comics.

I'm hoping this blog will expand, and I hope you enjoy following it. I also hope it encourages you to watch a TV series that is so much more than just a kids show, or indeed just a puppet show.

And of course - this blog is dedicated to Gerry Anderson himself, the mastermind.
